SUMMARY:
In this landmark local investigation, the nutrient dynamics that affect the ecosystem health of selected lakes in the      Province of Laguna will be investigated. The findings will be useful in developing integrated approaches to lake recovery      from eutrophication and aquatic resource conservation. Policies and innovative strategies for the reduction of nutrient enrichment can then be developed. The science-based outcomes of this study will contribute to the long-term    sustainability of the natural resources of lakes in the country.   

OBJECTIVE:
To determine nutrient dynamics in lake systems based on internal nutrient loading from sediment that contribute to the eutrophication of lakes in the Philippines.

SUMMARY

 The occurrence of water contaminants such as pesticides, industrial chemicals, heavy metals, nutrients, pathogens, etc. contributes to the pollution of waterways and river systems in the Philippines. This research will focus on the occurrence, levels and locational sources of Endocrine Disrupting compounds (EDCs) to provide up-to-date scientific data and information on emerging contaminants in aquatic systems in the country. The findings will also be useful in formulating guidelines on the prevention of EDCs contamination not only in wastewater treatment plant effluents and urban wastewaters but also in aquatic systems especially those that are used in aquaculture and domestic water production 

 

 

 

 


MAIN OBJECTIVES

The aim of the project is to determine the occurrence, levels, and variations of endocrine disrupting compounds in waterways and river systems that reach aquatic systems.

The meeting aims to harmonize the research activities of the six component projects under the DOST-GIA-funded program “Inter-regional Network through One-health Approach to Combat AMR” It also intends to visit and concretize a research collaboration with VSU in the Visayas region and discuss the nature and the details of the collaboration (MOA) per project.

Pre-implementation Meeting

A pre-implementation meeting for the program, “Inter-Regional Network Through One Health Approach to Combat AMR”, was held at the Department of Science and Technology - Metals Industry Research and Development Center last November 2022. The meeting was attended by the personnel from DOST, project personnel from UP Diliman (Project 3) and CLSU (Project 4 and 6), and Dr. Fema Abamo (Program Leader; Project 2).
